The Formation of Amon
In September 1989, Dr. Fé embarked on a new musical journey by founding Amon, a band that would make its mark in the realm of black metal. Despite the tumultuous split from Root, which featured Big Boss on drums, Dr. Fé surrounded himself with talented musicians, including Aleš Krejčí on bass and Lada Toman on guitar. Their debut demo, “Realm of Evil,” released in May 1990, showcased raw proto black metal and was heavily influenced by bands like Hellhammer and Celtic Frost.
Musical Evolution and Challenges
Amon’s lineup changes, particularly the addition of Lada ‘Larva’ Krupica, intensified their sound, leading to their second demo, “Kniha Smrti,” in March 1991. This material displayed a shift towards a more personal style while maintaining their dark essence. However, the departure of key members due to ideological differences presented significant challenges.
A Tribute to Dr. Fé
In 2023, Blackseed Productions honored Dr. Fé’s legacy by reissuing Amon’s early demos on vinyl. With his supervision and the inclusion of rare photographs, this release preserves the band’s historical essence. The untimely passing of Dr. Fé on April 20, 2023, marks the loss of a significant figure in Czech black metal history.
